PR: ActiGraph Ambulatory Monitoring System to be Used in National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)
Pensacola, FL-Feb. 14, 2011-The ActiGraph GT3X+ ambulatory monitor and ActiLife5 software suite will be used to assess the physical activity and sleep habits of participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), an ongoing program of studies designed to assess the health and nutritional status of children and adults in the United States. As part of the NHANES protocol for 2011 and 2012, survey participants will wear an ActiGraph GT3X+ ambulatory monitor for 7 days to measure the amount and intensity of physical activity and sleep quality. The NHANES project also used ActiGraph ambulatory monitors to collect participant activity data from 2003-2006.
“Our collective understanding of the health and wellness of the U.S. population is based directly on the information obtained through NHANES,” said ActiGraph President Jeff Arnett. “To be associated with such a significant and influential study is an honor for our company and really a testament to the validity and reliability of ActiGraph hardware and software products.”
A major program of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) began in the early 1960’s and combines physical examinations and interviews consisting of demographic, socioeconomic and health-related questions. A nationally representative sample of approximately 5000 people are examined each year, and the survey is responsible for producing vital health statistics for the nation, including the prevalence and risk factors for major diseases.
